Questions

What is SailBoard?

SailBoard is a web whiteboard for sailors, coaches, and protest juries. You build a situation on a grid where one square is one boat length, animate it against the Racing Rules of Sailing 2025–2028, and turn it into a protest sheet, a shareable jury replay, or a coaching scenario.

Is there a free version?

Right now everything is free — SailBoard is in early access. Building and animating on the board, the animated cases and rules library, and the training library need no account at all. Creating a free account adds saving your own scenarios, protest and defense PDFs, shareable jury replays, and AI rules analysis.

Does SailBoard help with coaching and training?

Yes. The training library is a set of animated, on-the-water coaching drills — starting, boat-handling and mark-work exercises — each with a coach's setup brief and points to call out, plus a playbook of animated team-racing tactics. Start-line drills carry a selectable 1, 3 or 5-minute sequence so the animation matches the start you'll run on the whistle. Browsing the training library is free.

How much does SailBoard cost?

Nothing right now — every feature is free while SailBoard is in early access. Saving, sharing, and AI analysis just need a free account. If paid plans arrive later, we'll announce it clearly ahead of time.

Do I need a credit card?

No. Sign up with an email address or a Google account and everything is unlocked — there's no checkout and nothing to cancel during early access.

Do the protest sheets follow the Racing Rules of Sailing?

The diagrams and animations are built around the Racing Rules of Sailing 2025–2028, and the protest form asks for the facts a committee actually needs. SailBoard is a coaching and preparation aid, not an official ruling or a substitute for the protest committee or jury.

What kinds of boats does it cover?

Anything from an Optimist to a keelboat. The grid is measured in boat lengths, so the distances stay honest whatever class you're drawing.
