RULE 13
While Tacking
After passing head to wind, a tacking boat keeps clear of others until it is on a close-hauled course.
While a boat is tacking — after it passes head to wind, until it reaches a close-hauled course on the new tack — it must keep clear of all other boats. Rules 10, 11 and 12 do not apply during this window. If two boats are tacking at the same time, the one on the other's port side keeps clear.

How it interacts with other rules
- Rule 10 — On Opposite Tacks · overridden by
While tacking, rule 13 replaces the normal port/starboard rule until the boat is close-hauled.
- Rule 15 — Acquiring Right of Way · see also
Once close-hauled the boat acquires right of way and rule 15 then requires it to give room initially.
